ABOUT PORTLAND COMMUNITY MEDIA

 Portland Community Media (PCM) is a Public, Education, non-profit organization that provides training and tools for individuals and organizations to use cable television and other media as a means of communication, civic engagement, artistic and cultural expression, and community development.

For 30 years PCM has provided training in video production and emerging digital technologies to individual communities, non-profit groups, government agencies and youth.

We program diverse, local television shows produced by the community on our six channels. You can find out more information at the organization's website at www.pcmtv.org.

OUR MISSION

PCM inspires people from all backgrounds to engage with existing and emerging technologies for the purpose of promoting broad participation in our civic and cultural life.

ROLE OF THE PCM BOARD OF DIRECTORS

The Board provides governance to the PCM organization, represents PCM in the community, and accepts fiscal responsibility for the effective use of the resources of the organization to fulfill the Mission.

The PCM Board of Directors is responsible for defining the organization's mission, setting policy and developing the strategic direction for the organization. The Board of Directors:

  • Actively sets policies and ensures that the organization has adequate resources to carry out its mission;
  • Provides oversight and direction to the Executive Director and is responsible for evaluating his/her performance;
  • Evaluates its own effectiveness as a governing body, as a group of volunteers, and as representatives of the community in upholding the public intersest served by the organization.

The PCM Board of Directors seeks to have community members serve three-year, staggered terms (odd/even years). Three Directors are appointed by the City of Portland; Mayor, City Council, and Liaison of the Mt. Hood Cable Regulatory Commission (MHCRC).

BOARD MEMBER GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Attend all Board and committee meetings and functions, such as special events.
  • Be informed about the organization's mission, services, policies, and programs.
  • Serve on committees or task forces and offer to take on special assignments.
  • Hire and evaluate the Execuitive Director.
  • Develop the PCM strategic plan--vision, mission and goals--and review the ED's performance in achieving it.
