Skills Workshops
Skills Workshops range in length and fee amounts. The focus of Skills Workshops is on technical training, as opposed to project creation. These workshops were designed with beginner and intermediate producers in mind. Build your skills and create better video, or explore new ways to get your videos out into the community.
Studio Skills Building - Four sessions $75
In this four-session workshop, participants develop a technical understanding of the various elements of studio production. Participants will learn the fundamentals of studio lighting, audio, camera operation, switching, directing and graphics. Workshop includes three training sessions plus one session as volunteer crew on a staff or community produced studio program.
Video for the Internet - One session $35
Video for the Internet is an introduction to using Blip.tv to host videos on the internet. Participants will learn to compress and upload videos to the internet and how to effectively use the internet to increase “views” and networking opportunities. Participants should bring a QuickTime clip less than five minutes long to upload during the workshop, or a sample clip can be provided for you.]
Field Lighting - One session $35
Hands-on three point lighting demonstration with the Lowell lighting kits and Lowell soft boxes for use indoors and out. Covers gels and diffusion, flagging and bounce lighting.
Final Cut Pro 2: Beyond the Basics - One session $35
Learn features of Final Cut Pro (FCP) for the intermediate user: color correction, motion and animation techniques, and tips for audio mastering. Each workshop will focus on limited features in FCP (for example, color correction). Please ask a PCM staff person about the topics to be covered in the workshop you are registered in.
Motion: Final Cut Pro Studio - Two sessions $50
Motion is a graphics program that comes bundled with Final Cut Pro Studio. If you want to learn a graphics tool that can do more than the graphics features within Final Cut Pro, you should consider attending this workshop. Topics covered include: Motion workflow and integration with Final Cut Pro, simple motion graphics, more advanced motion graphic, and how to edit existing graphics files.
Mobile Production Vehicle - One session $35
Learn the basics of remote live or recorded productions using PCM's Mobile Production Vehicle (MPV). This workshop will encompass set-up, take-down and basic operation of the MPV, as well as covering the logistic of organizing a remote production with the MPV.
