Media Education
Portland Community Media (PCM) offers a comprehensive range of low-cost media workshops to enable community members to produce community media programming for PCM's cable channels, the internet, and live public events.
There are two types of workshop trainings offered by PCM - Project and Skills Workshops. Project workshops are six sessions, and utilize the production of a media project to teach technology. Media projects are based on criteria set forth by PCM with a focus on community engagement.
Skills Workshops are one session, three hour trainings that focus on specific production and post-production technologies, for example Field Lighting or Video for the Internet.
Workshops are available on a first come, first serve basis. Take a look at PCM's current workshops on the right side of the page to see what might interest you.
To register for workshops online with a credit card, please click on the workshop link on the right side of this page, then click the "register now" link. To register by phone with a credit card, call PCM at 503-288-1515 x114, or register in person during public hours of operation.
The majority of PCM workshops require basic knowledge of the Apple Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS). Workshop trainers have found a lack of familiarity with the Mac OS to be a consistent source of difficulty for workshop participants. If you are unfamiliar with the Mac OS, click here to view Apple's "Anatomy of a Mac". Click here here to view Apple's "PC to Mac: The Basics".
